No Island Is An Island Book Jacket Design
Book Jacket Design, Illustration, Full Color CMYK Print
This was a school project that involved designing a Book Jacket based on a story from NPR’s This American Life. The story I chose was called No Island Is An Island by Jack Hitt. (Note: The author’s photograph is one I took myself, but not of the author due to copyright)
No Island Is An Island takes place on a tiny island–country near the middle of nowhere above eastern Australia in the Pacific Ocean, called Nauru. With a population of 12,000 people and the third the size of Manhattan, this paradisiacal little island, far from anything, is at the center of decade’s of the biggest global events. The process by which a mini country can go from nothing to everything and back again. Jack Hitt develops and tells the thought-provoking story of the symbolic rise and fall of an island and shows us the dystopian result of our greed and saturated egos giving way to the world’s worst outcomes. From global terrorism to bankrupting a Russian economy and the end of the world.
